In March, Vodacom ran an #AmakhosiFamily campaign, affording winning Amakhosi fans exclusive experiences that created a sense of pride to being part of the Kaizer Chiefs and Vodacom family. Throughout the campaign, fans could win awesome rewards, such as VIP stadium experiences and a chance to win one of five spots to the #AmakhosiFamily trip to Sun City valued at R40 000 per family.
There was a sense of excitement on Friday, 21 April 2017, all thanks to Vodacom. Five winning fans – Leon Mbele (Diepkloof), Surprise Phapha (Meadowlands), Itumeleng Mbele (White City), Sihle Mavuso (Katlehong) and Precious Khechane (Brixton) – along with their families met at the Vodacom Head Office in Midrand, Johannesburg, ready to depart for their Sun City adventure.
The #AmakhosiFamily experience kicked off with a tour to their favourite team’s training hub and home – the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena.
One lucky supporter, Precious Khechane, said: “I cannot believe that I got to see the Kaizer Chiefs trophy cabinet and even got a glimpse of the chairman’s office. Thank you Amakhosi for the branded jackets, golf shirts and caps; a hamper truly appreciated before heading to Sun City.”
Following their arrival at Sun City, the lucky families enjoyed all that Sun City has to offer, including a game drive at the Pilanesberg Game Reserve with the hope to spot the Big Five. After the wildlife experience, families moved on to the Ten Pin Bowling alley for some fun rivalry as they challenged each other to an exciting game of bowling in the hope of winning an LG Leon smartphone for each family member.
One winner, Gloria Mbele, could not contain her excitement. She said: “I just recently lost my phone and winning this amazing cellphone could not have come at a better time – thank you Vodacom for such a beautiful prize.”
Thereafter, all the families got to explore Sun City and enjoy it as a family at their own leisure.
Rowen Gangulu, Vodacom sponsorship manager, said: “Vodacom has been a proud sponsor of Kaizer Chiefs since 1998 and through campaigns such as the #AmakhosiFamily experiences, Vodacom wants to connect and entertain fans with unmatched Vodacom experiences.”
“It is this sentiment that inspires Vodacom to connect with fans emotionally using their passion point, soccer," Gangulu added.
Meanwhile, Itumeleng Mbhele from White City, Soweto said: “Vodacom gave me an opportunity like no other and that was a first-time experience to Sun City. My family and I are grateful and we will never forget the amazing experience."
