The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus for business

The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus are Huawei's best smartphones to date, offering superfast performance, a sleek design and top of the range camera.

If you’re contemplating picking one of these phones up, we thought it might make sense to take a specific look at just those things that set these phones apart, to help you identify what the best option for you is.

Performance

Both the P10 and P10 Plus feature the same processor — the HiSilicon Kirin 960 — which is on par with Qualcomm’s 2016 flagship. When it comes to storage and RAM, the difference is more stark. While the standard P10 comes with 4GB and RAM and either 32 or 64GB of storage, the P10 Plus comes in two variants, one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and another with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and both devices offer a MicroSD card slot.

Both smartphones feature Android 7.0 Nougat, which is the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. On top of that, each device boasts Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 software, which brings a number of great features to the handsets. These include enhanced machine learning, along with better photo-tagging and video-generating software.

Android 7.0, as a whole, also brings some great features. The software boasts better multitasking features thanks to a new split-screen mode, for instance, as well as shortcuts that allow you to quickly access features from the home screen.

Screen

Screen size is the most obvious difference between the two phones and come down to how big you like your phone: 5.1, 5.5 or 5.7 inches? Next up is the resolution: While the P10 Plus has a QHD display, the P10 sticks with Full HD as higher resolution larger displays demand more from the battery and processor. You will also find Gorilla Glass 5 on the P10 and P10 Plus, which is notable for its increased impact resistance.

Camera

Both the P10 and P10 Plus come with dual cameras, but there are a few differences between the two. Both phones come with optical image stabilization and Leica co-engineered lenses and image processing, but the P10 has Summarit-H lenses with an f/2.2 aperture, while the P10 Plus has higher quality Summilux-H lenses and a larger f/1.8 aperture for better images in low-light conditions.

Tips and Tricks

These are the Huawei P10 tips and tricks you need to try in order to get the most from your handset.

Add an app drawer

App drawers are a key feature of Android handsets, and while the phones don't offer one as standard, instead presenting users with a series of app-laden home screens, it’s not going to force you into sticking with its initial decision. Instead, with the P10 and P10 Plus you can opt for a standard home screen view or switch things up and move to a revamped, less cluttered app drawer setup.

To make the move, you’ll need to click Settings > Home screen style > Drawer and watch as your phone’s design changes in front of your eyes.

Add navigation skills to the fingerprint scanner

By tapping Settings > Navigation key, you can switch on additional touch-based functions.

Once enabled, the fingerprint scanner will adopt a variety of navigation-enhancing features. A quick single press will act as a return button, while a prolonged press with jump you straight back to your home screen.

Make your P10 one-hand friendly

You can compress the phone’s on-screen content to a more accessible, one-hand-friendly compacted form. To do this you’ll need to jump into the Settings menu and click Smart assistance > One-handed UI > Mini Screen view and select ‘On’.

Now swiping diagonally upwards from the phone’s bottom corners will shrink down the on-screen content to that corner, so you won’t have to dislocate your thumb to reach the top of the screen.

Put your knuckles to good use

Like Huawei’s other flagship phones of recent years, the P10 lets you perform a number of unique finger-shunning gestures simply by rubbing your knuckles over the screen.

Putting more features at your well, no, not there, Huawei’s knuckle gestures might feel strange, but they let you take custom screen shots without jumping through a series of menus and hard to find features lists.

Instead of capturing a whole screen, just draw around your desired content using your knuckle and, well, that’s it. Your desired screen grab should now be available to edit.
