Spotify is an amazing music service. You can listen to thousands of songs and albums from the planet’s biggest stars, newcomers and indie artists. You can also follow your favourite artists, build a virtual music collection, create playlists and discover new music.
But one of the best functions is that you can share your music, and the platform has given you more than one method to do this. Want to share a romantic playlist with your special someone, or impress your mates with that newly released album by your favourite artist? Here are a couple of ways to share music from your Spotify account.
Show Off Your Musical Taste On Social Media
Share anything from a track to an album, playlist or podcast directly in the Spotify app by tapping on the three dots icon and choosing ‘Share’. From there, you can share to a social media platform or messaging app. You can also generate a link to send, and the recipient can listen on the ad-supported version if they don't have a Spotify account.
Update Your Profile Page With New Listens
Every Spotify user has a profile page that can show what they’re listening to or which artists they follow. This feature is turned off by default, but you can choose to turn it on by selecting ‘Settings’ and then ‘Social’. You’ll find two options:

‘Listening Activity’ lists whatever you listen to on your profile page.

‘Recently Played Artists’ posts the artists you listen to.
Note that your profile is public; anyone can find and see it.
Share A Spotify QR Aode
Spotify generates special QR codes that you can print onto a poster or sticker. This is great if you’re a budding artist or simply have a playlist you want to share with friends. Others can scan it and access the song, album or playlist you want to share. These aren’t regular QR codes, though. Instead, they look like a series of lines that resemble a sound wave. Find this by clicking on the three dots under a song or playlist. There you'll see an image with the song/album/playlist cover and its name, and underneath the cover, you’ll also see the Spotify icon and the QR code. To scan a code, activate the Spotify search bar, tap on the camera icon and scan.
Create A Remote Listening Party
Have you discovered a new artist you absolutely love? This calls for a listening party, right? And even if everyone you want to invite can’t be there, Spotify has a function that lets you share the experience remotely with anyone who’s a Premium Spotify member. This is known as the Group Session feature that lets everyone listen to the same songs together, even if they’re not in the same room. Click on the ‘Device’ icon in the bottom left (it looks like a speaker), then select ‘Start a remote group session' and invite other Spotify Premium members. Now you can all listen to and control the music as if you're in the same room.
Blend Your Musical Tastes
Maybe your friends and you don’t share the same musical tastes, but as friends, you tolerate one another’s preferences. Instead of doing that, why not blend your preferences and see what Spotify gives you? Spotify is experimenting with a function called Blend, where up to 10 users can be brought together, and Spotify will come up with playlists that blend their preferences. Using it is a little tricky: go to the search bar, search for ‘Blend’, and find the ‘blend’ genre. Then select to create a blend and invite your friends. Spotify will continually update the playlist based on what you and others listen to.
If You Don’t Like Sharing...
Not everyone wants to share their music. If you really don’t want people to know what you’re listening to, go to Settings->Social and check the sharing options are turned off (they should be by default). You can also turn off ‘Spotify Connect in Background’ under ‘Devices’ if you don’t want other apps to see your music. And if you like sharing but want to keep some things private – maybe you and your friends are hard-core drill fans but you’re partial to a bit of pop too – activate the ‘Private session’ option under Settings->Social.
