App review: Todoist

Need help sticking to your 2016 goals? To-do list app Todoist will keep you on track.

Need help sticking to your 2016 goals? To-do list app Todoist will keep you on track.

I enjoy the process of setting goals but sticking to them is another matter. While I may have the best intentions of eating healthy food, exercising regularly and tackling household chores like sorting through the receipts in my handbag, on a day-to-day basis it’s easy to let things slide.

So what’s the solution? Create a schedule and stick to it, come hell or high water.

And that’s where free app Todoist comes in. By creating to-do lists, you can remove some of the stress of trying to decide what you need to do. By setting up reminders and lists, you don’t need to think, you just need to do!

Get things done every day

Todoist is a simple and powerful service designed to help you manage tasks and projects anywhere and any time. There are apps for more than 15 platforms and you can access it on your computer, mobile devices and use it offline.

The design is intuitive and easy to use to create to-do lists that you can check off everyday. You can also set up recurring dates using normal language. For example, ‘Go to the gym every Wednesday at 5.30’ or ‘walk the dog every Tuesday at 9’. This makes it very quick to set up your tasks. You can opt for daily reminders and notifications via email, SMS or app notifications.

Sharing is easy

A nifty feature is that you can share to-do lists with others, I’ve found this particularly useful for household tasks like whose turn it is to cook dinner. You can also use it as a way to keep yourself accountable and set up small daily health goals such as ‘Drink 8 eight glasses of water’ or ‘floss your teeth’ and check these off at the end of the day.

Chart your progress

The Todoist Karma function tracks your productivity and creates visualisations that chart your progress over time.
