Audiobooks we loved this year

From fantasy novels to memoirs, these are some of 2022's standout audiobooks.

Audiobooks are a great way to pass time while multi-tasking or commuting. They’re also conveniently accessible through your mobile device or smart speaker. Check out some of the most enjoyed audiobooks of 2022:

I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story

Listed as a number one bestseller on Amazon’s Audible, I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story is written and read by Anthony Daniels himself, and features a foreword written and read by JJ Abrams. This is a must for galaxy fans, as Daniels provides a backstage pass of sorts in this deeply personal memoir about his time as the only actor to appear in all the Star Wars films. He recounts the pain behind wearing the suit, the friendships made and his first encounter with director George Lucas.

The Light We Carry

In the follow-up to her number one bestseller Becoming, Michelle Obama’s The Light We Carry shares wisdom and strategies for staying hopeful and balanced in today’s uncertain world. Obama shares new insights and stories of her own around change, power, and challenges, drawing from her experiences as a mother, spouse, daughter, friend, and of course, First Lady. It’s an ideal holiday listen, being nearly 10 hours of inspiration for the year ahead.

Fairy Tale

Sci-fi and Stephen King fans won’t want to miss this new release narrated by Seth Numrich and Stephen King. It’s lengthy at 24 hours and six minutes, but it’s worth it. Fairy Tale is about a 17-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war. Already carrying the burden of losing his mom at a young age and subsequently taking care of his drunk dad, he meets a dog named Radar and her ageing master, Howard Bowditch. In this terrifying tale, a boy and his dog must lead the battle where good is pitted against evil.

The Sandman: Act III

Regarded as a ground-breaking audio production, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman: Act III is a follow-up to this bestselling saga. Its popularity is no doubt prompted by the release of The Sandman on Netflix earlier this year. It’s based on the DC graphic novels written by Gaiman and now features 3D audio. Narrated by an all-star cast, including Gaiman himself, and Hollywood heavyweights Kat Dennings, James McAvoy, and Wil Wheaton. The content is suited for mature audiences only.

Finding Me: A Memoir

Award-winning and prolific American actor Viola Davis, best known for How To Get Away With Murder, Fences, and DC’s Suicide Squad, narrates her life story in this nine-hour-and-15-minute audiobook. She bares it all; from escaping her past in a crumbling New York City apartment to making the life-changing decision to stop running and go beyond the city. It’s a deep and inspiring story of hope, survival and self-acceptance.
