Black Friday is relatively new to South Africa, but the concept has been around in the US for years, taking place the day after Thanksgiving. Here are some more facts you may not have known about Black Friday.

Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in November in the US - Black Friday is the next day.

1961 - the year the term Black Friday was first used, in reference to the horrendous traffic in Philadelphia on that day. It's since come to refer to the shopping chaos on that day - which you can avoid by buying Vodacom deals online.

US$67 billion - the amount spent over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend in 2015 in the US, in stores. Nearly US$3 billion was spent online.
