Bring the cloud into your Datacentre with AWS Outpost from Vodacom Business

AWS Outpost is a new service from Amazon that allows you to create a virtual server on AWS that you can control and manage yourself.

What if you could leverage many of the capabilities Amazon Web Service (AWS) cloud services have to offer locally, without the expense of specialized, dedicated in-house resources? Simplify different managing architectures, address sovereignty and security risks, and eliminate writing code for different stacks. Now you can by adding AWS Outposts to your IT stack.

While customers are increasingly looking to leverage cloud technologies for faster innovation, some workloads need to remain on-premises where data residency is paramount or where every millisecond counts. Vodacom Business customers across various industries such as financial services, mining, manufacturing, retail, logistics, and the public sector have been using Intel-powered AWS Outposts for their on-premises workloads.

What is AWS Outpost?

AWS Outpost is a new service from Amazon that allows you to create a virtual server on AWS that you can control and manage yourself. Outpost gives you the ability to create your own AWS services without having to use an existing AWS account.

AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that extends AWS infrastructure, services, APIs, and tools to customer premises. By providing local access to AWS-managed infrastructure, AWS Outposts enables customers to build and run applications on premises using the same programming interfaces as in AWS Regions, while using local compute and storage resources for lower latency and local data processing needs.

An Outpost is a pool of AWS compute and storage capacity deployed at a customer site while AWS operates, monitors, and manages this capacity as part of an AWS Region. You can create subnets on your Outpost and specify them when you create AWS resources such as EC2 instances, EBS volumes, ECS clusters, and RDS instances. Instances in Outpost subnets communicate with other instances in the AWS Region using private IP addresses, all within the same VPC.

Benefits of AWS Outpost through Vodacom Business

  • Extend AWS on-premises: AWS Outposts enable you to develop once and deploy in the AWS cloud or on-premises without having to rewrite your applications. With Outposts, you have the same hardware and software infrastructure and a consistent set of services and tools across your AWS cloud and on-premises environments to build and run modern, cloud-native applications anywhere.
  • Fully managed: AWS Outposts are fully managed and supported by Vodacom Business. AWS automatically manages and updates AWS Outposts as part of its ongoing operations in the public AWS region. You do not have to worry about updating or patching infrastructure.
  • Choice of management planes: AWS Outposts allow you to choose the AWS native variant of AWS Outposts or the VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts variant as your management plane for your APIs, management console, automation, governance policies, and security controls for all your applications across the AWS cloud and on-premises locations.
  • Future-proof infrastructure: AWS Outposts allow you to choose from a wide selection of computing, memory, and storage options based on your needs. Outposts can be easily upgraded with the latest hardware and next-generation instances to run all your native AWS and VMware applications.
