Connacht is located in a province containing only 8% of the Irish population, hence they have always had a smaller base of players to draw from and historically have not been given the budgets of the other three Irish teams. All of which made their victory in the 2015-16 Pro14 over the more fancied Leinster such an upset. The South African influence includes Connacht being coached by Steph Nel in the early 2000s, and players such as Marnitz Boshoff and Quinn Roux having formed part of the Connacht Clan.
