How Vodacom Business is supporting SMEs in South Africa

Nastassha Dooks, Executive Head of SME and Soho Segment at Vodacom Business, talks to us about what the company is doing to empower small and midsize businesses in this country.

In my position at Vodacom Business, I focus on small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) in South Africa. Through this role, I’ve learned about the tough problems these businesses deal with every day. Our interactions have shown that they face many obstacles that stop them from reaching their true potential.

One of the most pressing challenges is persistent load-shedding. The unpredictable power cuts disrupt operations, impact customer service, and ultimately affect the ability of our SMEs to keep their businesses operational. I've witnessed first-hand how this alone can sway the course of a business’s success.

Another piece of the puzzle is lack of access to funding. I’ve come to understand how crucial cash flow is for the smooth functioning of any business. Having limited funds makes it hard for them to control their finances, grow their businesses and take advantage of new opportunities.

It’s surprising that small businesses aren’t using technology to its fullest potential. Many SMEs haven’t yet adopted digital tools that could make their operations better, faster, and more resilient. This shows how important it is to spread the word about how technology can transform today's business landscape.

Unique solutions for small business

Vodacom Business stands at the forefront of addressing these challenges. We create solutions to help and strengthen small businesses that are carefully designed to fit their specific needs. We offer various financial services that give them access to funds in just 48 hours. This quick support injects the necessary funds into their operations, helping them survive and grow.

We offer innovative solutions such as Kwika and Max point-of-sale devices so SMEs can digitise their payment systems, which ensures a better customer experience and saves the business money. We also provide several affordable insurance products that protect SMEs’ assets and employees.

In the digital world, our Eziads platform is a game-changer. This innovative digital advertising platform helps SMEs grow online without having to spend too much. What’s more, good results are guaranteed. As someone who really cares about small businesses, I am thrilled by how this tool could help them grow in the digital age.

Holistic approach to growth

We know how important it is to foster a digitally savvy workforce in the small business sector. Beyond financial solutions and digital tools, our Cloud Marketplace initiative consolidates applications and support from global giants like Microsoft, Google, and AWS. This makes it easier for SMEs to transform digitally and shows Vodacom Business’s comprehensive approach to providing an ecosystem of support that goes further than connectivity.

The launch of V-hub, a free knowledge and advice platform, is another pivotal step. The articles, videos, and masterclasses on the platform help SMEs to understand digital marketing, e-commerce, cybersecurity, and data analytics. The aim is to equip small businesses with the knowledge they need to navigate the digital landscape with confidence.

Partnering for prosperity

As an executive at Vodacom Business, I take immense pride in our role as the ideal partner to support small businesses in South Africa. Our worldwide presence and strategic partnerships uniquely position us to provide complete solutions that help SMEs grow quickly.  We understand the economic significance of SMEs, not just for our country but the whole continent.

Over the past five years, Vodacom Business has evolved to being more than just a connectivity provider. We've curated a suite of solutions based on extensive research and collaboration with SMEs worldwide. Our goal is to give small businesses the tools they need to bring in customers, manage cash flow, be visible online, and ensure financial and digital security.

In a landscape of challenges and opportunities, I urge SMEs to recognise their own resilience and creativity. At Vodacom Business, we're not just a service provider – we're a dedicated partner in your journey to success. We provide the solutions, information, and support to help SMEs change the way they work, adjust to the digital age, and focus on what truly matters: their growth and prosperity.
