Huawei nova: The perfectly priced business phone

Even though it costs nearly half the price of expensive flagship phones, the nova is a dark horse of smartphone excellence. It’s the perfect device for your business.

A business phone needs to be more than just the best. It must place the latest features and technologies at your fingertips, at the right price. If you are running a business, you want serious value for money that doesn’t compromise on quality and performance. You need a phone with a reliable battery, high-speed internet connectivity and style that shows you make your choices seriously.

Enter the Huawei nova. We had a look at the nova and came back very impressed.

What is the Huawei nova?

Huawei has built a solid reputation for delivering excellent phones at great prices. Nothing proves this more than when Google contracted the company to build its Nexus 6P smartphone. Now Huawei is taking that excellence even further with its nova phones.

The nova is an Android phone, running on the Marshmallow release. It has a 5-inch 1080p screen (or 5.5 inches on the Nova Plus), using LPS technology to give realistic colours and a very large viewing angle. A fast fingerprint reader keeps the phone secure, which inside houses an Octa-core Snapdragon 625 2GHz processor and 32GB of storage, which can be increased with a Micro SD memory card. It also has 3GB of RAM, which makes the phone very fast with apps.

This is one classy phone. It has a curved 2.5D screen that fits smoothly with the aviation-strength magnesium and aluminium alloy case. Measuring only 7.1 millimetres thick, the nova looks and feels as good as any other top phones on the market.

Why is it good for business?

The nova is ideally suited for business tasks. It has two cameras - 12-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front - that can be used for video calls, document scans and more. The phone charges very fast, thanks to USB type-C technology. Between its 3 020 mAh battery and Android’s Doze feature - which manages power more efficiently - the nova can offer up to two days of continuous battery life. Yes, you read right: two days.

Since it supports the latest connectivity standards including LTE and Wifi, the nova has both the power and speed to handle modern business applications such as Outlook and Salesforce. Use its high-speed wifi features to quickly backup important files, participate in conference calls and distributed presentations on Box, Dropbox or any other service.

All of this for a suggested retail price of R6 999. Yes, at nearly half the price of the market’s best phones, but without compromises. This is absolutely the phone to consider if you require several devices for a workforce or for your own business-grade device.

Huawei has set the new benchmark for great phones in in the mid-tier market. It is difficult to find another device that compares favourably with the nova. We can absolutely recommend it for anyone looking for a great business phone at an incredible price.
