Mindfulness made easy

If we don’t rest, we can’t work – but how do we go between these two modes?

Flipping the switch between being mentally and physically active and powering down to give our bodies the chance to recharge can be simplified through the act of practising mindfulness.

We often use technology as a distraction, but it’s a nifty tool to redirect our energy in a more positive way too. Boosting your ability to be mindful is almost essential in a world where we’re often tugged in several directions at the same time. In its simplest sense and according to the team at Headspace, being mindful refers to your ability to be where your feet are – truly present and living in the moment, while being aware of your thoughts and feelings, without distraction or judgment.

Three ways to use technology in your favour:

1. Learn when to use it

Try not to use any electronic devices for the first and last hours of your day from when you wake up to when you go to bed.

2. Follow accounts that inspire you

Instead of being overwhelmed by consumerism culture and the need to keep up appearances, create a sense of community on your platforms by connecting with accounts that feel like safe spaces.

3. Choose your experience

Download apps and watch content that uplifts your spirits. Listen to audio books or read self-help books that empower you to develop your emotional intelligence levels.

While you’re at it – have you tried Headspace ?
It’s an app-turned-series. The Headspace Guide To Sleep is now streaming on Netflix. You’ll learn facts about sleep, backed by science, to enhance your relationship with rest and improve the quality of your night time experience. These essential facts combined with mindfulness and meditation help you face daily changes as a more rested and ready-to-go version of yourself.
