Sony’s refreshing Xperia Z2

Sony’s new flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z2, records 4K video, is faster, has a bigger battery, brighter screen, and, of course, it’s waterproof.

The Sony Xperia Z2 is available from Vodacom Online from R469 per month on Smart S.

Announced today (24 February) at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the 5.2-inch Xperia Z2 smartphone sees some significant improvements. On the outside the Sony Xperia Z2 looks a lot like the Z1, but on the inside there have been some serious upgrades.

Here are a few key features to look out for:

Camera – The 20.7MP camera has a large sensor that Sony claims is 30% bigger than standard smartphones. This means sharper photos and better low-light capability.

Video – The Sony Xperia Z2 can record ultra high-definition 4K video which has four times as much detail as standard definition. However, you’ll only benefit from this feature if you also have a 4K television or projector to enjoy the HD playback.

Display – Using Sony Bravia TV technology, the 5.2-inch display features Live Colour LED, a bespoke technology that Sony says provides its mobile devices with the widest range of colours on the market.

Performance – A large 3200mAh battery should see a greatly improved battery life while a Snapdragon 801 (with 3GB of RAM) processor promises ultra-fast performance.

Sony has also announced the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet – it's lighter and slimmer than the Xperia Z1 and has also undergone some fine-tuning under the hood. Take a look at the official site for more.

Full details about availability and prices are not yet available, but we can confirm that Vodacom will stock the Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z2 tablet and the Sony Xperia M2.
