The best camera phones of 2019... so far

Gone are the days you had to lug around a camera to take beautiful shots. Now, everything fits perfectly into one compact device – and these are three of the best.

One of the most exciting results of cellular technology today is a good high-quality camera in your pocket. Gone are the days where you had to lug around a camera and a cellphone – now everything fits perfectly into one compact device.

Here are three of the top camera phones for 2019, to ensure you have pics of a professional calibre wherever you are.

1. Huawei P30 Pro

The main camera on this incredible smart device far surpasses that of its competitors on the market. With a combination of 40MP, 20MP and 8MP shooters, superb low-light photography, stellar image processing and a bird’s-eye super zoom ‘periscope’ lens feature, this phone is easily the user’s choice for Insta-worthy snaps. The phone camera also offers a 16mm wide-angle lens for getting all of your elements into one great shot. Plus the device has good AI features, an improved portrait mode and decent storage for all your pics. The Huawei P30 Pro camera also uses an RYYB (red, yellow, yellow, blue) sensor as opposed to the industry-standard RGB (red, green, blue) sensor, allowing more light to be captured in images.

2. Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

Samsung’s current flagship phone offers five cameras in total – two on the front and three on the back – for extreme versatility. The main camera offering is a 12MP main sensor that can switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture according to the surrounding light. The phone also offers a 16MP ultrawide and a live-focus to add more depth of field. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has an improved stabilisation mode for video, to ensure there are no shaky or blurry clips.

3. Samsung Galaxy Note 9

This versatile camera can identify and adapt to surroundings and subjects using a new scene-optimiser feature. With a battery that comfortably lasts up to a day, you don’t need to worry about the potential of being stuck without a camera on your excursions. The camera adjusts the white balance on a variety of pre-programmed subjects and, as an added bonus, you can use the stylus to activate your shots, which means no more arms in selfies. Manual shooting allows users to select an f/1.5 or f/2.4 aperture with the wide-angle lens. There is also raw support, Auto HDR and an 8MP f/1.7 selfie camera with an autofocus setting.
