The future of SMEs in South Africa looks bright with the right support and information on tow

With this notion as front of mind, Vodacom Business convened the first #SMETHRIVESUMMIT with the aim of showing up for business owners with a buzzing entrepreneurial spirit.

Hosted at the Vodacom Midrand Campus, the space was packed to capacity from Vodacom Financial Services to members of the business fraternity at large and the business owners we’re so privileged to be partnered with.

As a business, we are inspired by the passion that business owners show towards their establishments and the hard work they put into customer service. And, for this reason, we are always challenging ourselves to provide the best possible funding options and financial services to assist them as they turn visions to reality.

At the heart of what we do, we aim to make access to financial inclusion a right for all South Africans and not some. And, while on the trajectory of empowering SMEs to grow, we offer educational content that gives business owners the confidence to build their businesses their way.

The #SMETHRIVESUMMIT was deeply rooted in meaningful conversations, information-sharing sessions, networking and exchanging tricks of the trade which can be summarised into the following:

  • Find & Keep Customers
  • Cyber Security & Data Analytics
  • Financial & Business Tips
  • SME Masterclasses
  • E-Commerce
  • Productive and motivated teams

All of which can be accessed for free on the V-Hub platform – a site that houses useful educational content to encourage the growth of SMEs.

We see your vision. Let’s help you get there – SINAWE

Attending this noteworthy summit were a few of the business owners whom we’ve had the immense pleasure of walking this sometimes-challenging entrepreneurial journey with.

Miggs FoReal is a young South African DJ from Ga-Rankuwa who [with the help of our card machines and funding] can now grow his business beyond spinning the decks to a well-known Music Academy that helps young people who also want to get into the business of music.

“The Vodacom brand and its services make me look professional and my customers take me seriously now,” Miggs FoReal on finding great value attending the summit.

Sir Anthony Jeans is a denim brand nestled in the heart of the Vaal in Gauteng who is taking the denim and jean-making industry by storm. He describes himself as a fashionista and having had purchased a VodaPay Kwika card machine which also allowed him access to up to R1.5 million in business funding after four months of trading – he is well on his way to building his empire. While at the summit, he shared how important it is for growing businesses to be in a space that is abuzz with entrepreneurs who are at different levels.

“My business needed to come and showcase at this event, it was necessary"

A lady who needs no introduction, who combines both the rich aroma of her cooking with her passion for business is Palesa Mazibuko, the trailblazer of Parsley on Thyme – a restaurant equally matched to the task. While speaking as one of the panellists at the summit, she recalls how she was inundated with bills, quotations and business overheads and had no idea where the funding would come from.

She took us back to a period when she had all the aspirations to grow her business, but money was a huge challenge. To this day, she still cannot fathom how swift the application for a Business Term Advance was and how speedily the funds were made available to her.

#ShowUpForHer business growth ...

While celebrating Women’s Month and the passion of female entrepreneurs during the month of August, we’re pleased to learn that through receiving a Business Term Advance of up to R5 million from Vodacom Financial services plus a VodaPay Kwika card machine, she has comfortably used the cash flow to open a new branch and is now building her business safely with a card machine built with her unique business in mind.

We understand the struggles of small business owners and want to come along for the journey to help them thrive.
