The step-by-step guide to connecting your home to fibre

Fibre is rolling out in cities all across South Africa. Here’s what you need to do to get your home connected.

There’s nothing worse than buffering a movie on a Sunday night or watching the counter on your games download slow down to kilobytes per second. Well, maybe there is. But still, it’s the 21st century – we should have access to high-speed internet! With fibre rolling out across the country, we’ve put together this step-by-step guide to setting your home up with the sweetest internet connection in the land.

Check if you have fibre coverage

First things first: you have to check if there is fibre in your area. If it’s not available yet but it’s coming soon, you can make use of Vodacom’s Interim LTE access, which gives you 100GB for R599 per month.

  • Check your coverage here.

  • Type in your address in the search bar.

  • The map will zoom in to your address and show if you have fibre, if it’s coming soon, or if it’s coming soon soon.

  • If there is fibre, click on Continue. Confirm your address on the next page.

Choose a plan

Next, it’s time to choose the plan that’s right for you. Depending on your location, you’ll have access to a range of different options:

  • Standard fibre deals: Just the good stuff – high-quality internet.

  • Fibre integrated deals: Fibre plus some value-adds, such as a fixed voice line.

  • Vodacom One deals: Sweeten the deal with a Vodacom cellphone contract and save on your total monthly bill.

You also have some other choices about your service:

  • Capped or uncapped: If you’re a binge-watcher or if you’re into online games, uncapped is the way to go. The same is true if you’ll have many people connecting to the network.

  • Contract term: Whether you choose a 24-month, 12-month or month-to-month contract, you’ll receive a Vodafone H-500 router or the Huawei DN8245 Wi-Fi router to use for the duration of your contract. On the 24-month contract, there is no activation charge.

  • Provider: Depending on where you are, there may be multiple fibre providers. These are the amazing companies that have laid fibre across South Africa. If you have a preference, make your choice.

Pretty easy so far, don’t you agree?

Top up with talk time

Being with Vodacom means you get access to additional value-added services, backed by world-class service and reliability. Here are some of the things you can add to your contract:

  • TV and laptop deals

  • LTE as backup

  • Vodacom IP Talk: Add a voice line to the package.

  • ShowMax

  • Uninterrupted power supply

  • WiFi Extender

Fibre installation

Once you’ve placed your order, we’ll confirm the installation date and time that’s convenient for you. The installers will need access to your home to bring the fibre line into the building and set up the Wi-Fi router. You will need to decide where to place the Wi-Fi router where it gives your home the best coverage.

No more buffering :)

On successful approval of your order, an approved Vodacom installer will be in contact with you to facilitate the installation of equipment at your designated location.

  • Should your designated location be within the Vodacom self-built areas, the Vodacom approved installer will ensure the installation of an integrated router i.e.  ONT(Optical Network Terminal) / CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) .
  • Should your location form part of the bitstream network, an approved bitstream installer will be in contact with you to facilitate the installation of an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). The CPE router will be couriered to you directly from Vodacom.
  • On successful installation of your equipment as mentioned above, your service will be provisioned for activation (Terms and Conditions apply).
