Pitted against those of MTN, Cell C and Telkom, the download speed of Vodacom's mobile data service far outstripped the competition, with an average speed of 34.8Mbps. Other networks' average speeds were 29.0Mbps, 27.6Mbps and 24.4Mbps respectively.

The tests were conducted in main residential and business areas in Gauteng, including Menlyn, the Union Buildings, Waterkloof, Gallo Manor, Sandton, the Joburg Zoo, Midrand and Randburg.
Using four different Samsung Galaxy S7s, the tests were done simultaneously while stationary, to eliminate any discrepancies. The Ookla Speed Test app, downloaded from the Google Play Store, was used to test and record the speeds at each location.
