Previously only reserved for premium phones, 5G capabilities are now the norm for majority of devices being released this year. Let’s look at what the 2022 line-up looks like.
Samsung A33 5G
Samsung’s A Series is the company’s most popular range and for good reason. You’ve heard of the A53 5G but there’s also a cheaper model in the line-up heading to South Africa in the form of the A33 5G. It is packed with the latest innovations, such as a new 5nm processor, a large 6.4-inch display with 90Hz refresh rate, and two-day battery life. It has a 48MP quad-camera, 13MP selfie-cam and a 5000mAh battery. Importantly, it features 5G connectivity and may just be one of the most affordable 5G handsets.
Vivo Y76 5G
Vivo’s slender yet stylish V76 5G has just landed and promises bang for your buck. The 6.58-inch device features advanced camera tech, fast charging, extended storage, and now, 5G support. The antenna is wrapped around the phone, supports dual-mode 5G and promises low-power consumption through its 7nm processer. It has a 50MP triple AI camera and a 16MP selfie-cam. The 44W FlashCharge plug will take it to 70% within 32 minutes.
iPhone SE 5G
Regarded as the more pocket-friendly phone from Apple, the brand-new iPhone SE for 2022 has been given a major update with 5G support. It features the same A15 Bionic chip on Apple’s current flagships and improved battery life. The SE is not part of Apple’s annual line-up so if you’ve been waiting for the 5G version, look out for it. The 4.7-inch handset has a 12MP rear camera that shoots in 4K, and a 7MP selfie-cam with 1080p support. It is available in red, black, and starlight colours.
