Since its establishment in 2006, the Vodacom Volunteers Programme has provided employees with a structured and secure environment to give back to their communities. The programme embodies Vodacom’s commitment to social responsibility, allowing employees to dedicate their goods, time, skills, and cash to meaningful causes. To support these efforts, every Vodacom employee is entitled to two days of paid leave annually for volunteer activities.
We asked some of our Vodacom Volunteers to share their experiences. Here’s what they had to say:
August Pallinevello – Sales Admin Support
“What was most rewarding for me is seeing the tangible impact on the lives of others and the sense of unity and purpose shared with my colleagues. Working side by side with my Managing Executive was just a powerful reminder of how leadership and teamwork can drive change. Mandela Day was such a special occasion. Working alongside my Managing Executive and colleagues on the project was both humbling and empowering. Tree planting, recycling, and waste cleanup are not only impactful for the environment but also for the community, and raise awareness about caring for our planet.”
Sandy Sekgopo – Executive Secretary
“Knowing that my time makes a difference creates a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. Seeing the joy and smiles our efforts bring to people motivates me to keep going and do more.”
Bonita Newkirk - Executive Secretary
“I helped Aan De Doorns distribute 770 food parcels in response to the floods. This experience really highlighted the importance of teamwork and compassion.”
Leslé-Ann George – Marketing Specialist
“Volunteering is incredibly fulfilling, but balancing it with a busy work schedule can be tough. One of the best pieces of advice I've received is to connect with like-minded people and form a team. Working together towards a common goal not only lightens the load but also makes the experience much more enjoyable!”
Zizipho Mafuna – Marketing Intern
“Volunteering has touched my heart and has also shown me the resilience of the human spirit and the power of kindness. It’s deepened my empathy and gratitude, proving that even small acts can bring hope and dignity. My true fulfilment comes from lifting others.”
Carmilia Malaza – Customer Insights Intern
“As a Vodacom CSI Champion, I'm inspired by the transformative impact of our initiatives. Witnessing hope in beneficiaries' eyes, bridging the digital divide, and collaborating with passionate colleagues fuels my passion.”
Siziwe Precious Mokoena – Executive Secretary
“Volunteering changed my perspective and deepened my understanding and appreciation of the work we do. It has given me a firsthand perspective on challenges faced by individuals and communities we aim to support. This experience has also shown me the importance of collaboration, resourcefulness, and compassion in achieving our goals.”
Brigitte Elizabeth Levendal – Scrum Master
“Volunteering affords me the opportunity to give back and make a difference, one heart at a time. It is such a blessing to see that a simple act of kindness can make such a profound difference to those less fortunate. Thank you, Vodacom Foundation, for providing this platform, for it is in giving that we receive.”
Lavinia Koopman – Executive Secretary
“Volunteering has always been something very close to my heart from a very young age. Sharing with people who are less fortunate really brings me so much joy. Being able to give back in my professional capacity as well is really an honour. Thank you, Vodacom Foundation, for the opportunity to live out my passion.”
These testimonials illustrate the heart of the Vodacom Volunteers Programme—its ability to create lasting change while fostering a culture of empathy, teamwork, and purpose. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, ripples outward, leaving an indelible mark on both the communities served and the volunteers themselves.
