Customer Story: Why I Still Go to the Vodacom Store

I use my VodaPay app all the time, but I still like to go to the Vodacom store. Here’s why.

I buy everything online, from groceries to clothes to electricity. So, it should come as no surprise that I’m a prolific user of my VodaPay app. I love the convenience of topping up my data and airtime from my phone, checking my balances without having to call anyone (millennial problems), and taking advantage of my rewards. But when it comes to upgrading my plan or getting a new device, I still like to go into my local Vodacom store. Here are five reasons why.

1. Enhanced security

With scams getting more prevalent and more convincing, going in store and speaking to a real person when it comes to big purchases and setting up debit orders gives you peace of mind that your transaction is legit. Vodacom stores also have added security measures to verify your identity, like using facial biometrics.

2. Expert staff

With so many options to choose from when it comes to plans and products, it can be tricky trying to figure out which one is best for your needs. Vodacom stores have accredited and trained staff to advise customers on upgrades, fibre, home internet, and other services or products you might be looking for. Vodacom staff have helped me get deals that I probably would not have noticed if I was doing the research myself.

3. Being able to touch and feel the products

You can get detailed product specs online and even do product comparisons, but when it comes to something like a smartphone or smartwatch, it’s not the same as holding the device in your hand. Vodacom stores have a wide range of products and accessories with demo models that you can pick up and hold to give you a feel for their size and weight, as well as how easy they are to navigate. It’s also easier to see what accessories you might want – whether it’s something useful, like a screen protector or charging block, or a fun accessory, like a cool new cover.

4. It’s convenient

There are over 500 Vodacom store outlets around the country, so there’s a good chance there will be a store near you, especially if you live in a major city. If walk-in is not your style, you can book an appointment online. There’s also priority queuing for Vodacom Red clients and clients with disabilities. The flagship stores have self-service touchscreens that you can browse, and if you need assistance, you just call a staff member to help you.

5. Device repairs and support

If your device isn’t working properly, you can bring it into the Vodacom store and speak to a trained technician, even if you’re not on the Vodacom network. If your device needs to go in for repairs, chat to the staff in store to see if there’s a loan device available for you to use while your wait for yours to be returned. You can also insure all of your tech devices in store and, while you're there, add other valuable products and services to your contract like funeral cover.

Going digital has many advantages, but sometimes it’s just better to be old-school and find what you’re looking for in store.
