Save on Your Next Smartphone with Vodacom Trade-In Deals

Copied!

Thinking about upgrading your phone? Your old device could help lower the cost of your next one. Here’s how Vodacom Trade-In can make upgrading easier.

That old smartphone sitting in a drawer might be worth more than you think.

If you’re thinking about upgrading to a newer device, you don’t necessarily have to say goodbye to your old phone and leave it gathering dust. With Vodacom’s Trade-In programme, you can trade in an eligible device when upgrading and potentially reduce the cost of your new contract.

It is also a simple way to give your old phone a second life instead of adding it to the growing pile of unused electronics at home.

So, how does Vodacom Trade-In work?

Why should you trade-in your old device

If you’re already thinking about getting a new smartphone, your current device could help make the upgrade more affordable.

Vodacom’s Trade-In programme allows customers to trade in eligible smartphones when moving to a new device. Depending on the device and offer, the trade-in value can contribute towards a reduced tariff on your contract.

That means your old phone does not simply become yesterday’s technology. It can have a role to play in getting you into your next one.

Trading in your old phone is a quick and easy process that comes with several benefits:

  • It enables you to get rid of your old phone for a new one you actually want, while enjoying a reduced tariff on your contract. You can save up to R22 000 on a device trade-in.
  • It also contributes to sustainability by giving your phone a second life and removing the hassle of having to dispose of it yourself.

Which phones can you trade in?

Not every device will necessarily qualify, so it’s worth checking before you make plans to trade in.

Vodacom currently accepts eligible devices that meet its trade-in criteria, with participating models from brands including Apple, Samsung and others. For example, eligible Apple models include certain iPhone 12, 13 and 14 devices. See the full list of eligible devices and participating stores.

The condition of your phone also matters. It needs to be in reasonable working order, switch on without being connected to a power supply and meet Vodacom’s other eligibility requirements. It also cannot have been reported as lost or stolen.

What should you do before trading in your phone?

Before handing over your old phone, make sure your personal information isn’t going along with it.

Back up your photos, contacts and other important information first. Then sign out of your accounts and remove security features linked to the device. For iPhones, this includes disabling Find My iPhone and removing your iCloud account. Android users should remove their Google account.

You’ll also need to clear your personal data and remove your SIM or memory card before handing the phone over.

Also note that only one trade-in is accepted per person, and you will need to present a valid ID when trading in your device.

Think of it as moving house: you don’t want to leave your personal belongings behind for the next person.
