A new level of productivity

Get more out of your smart device this year by downloading these useful apps for small business owners.

Having a smartphone in your pocket means you can keep an eye on your business wherever you are. We've rounded up a selection of functional and practical apps that are ideal for businesses small and large.

1. MailChimp

Email marketing is simple with the free MailChimp app. Manage your email lists, add new subscribers, send campaigns and view reports. Your entire team can use MailChimp, meaning you don’t have to be at your desk to check in on your campaign performance.

2. FreshBooks

Send professional invoices and estimates as well as manage client details and contacts on your Android or Apple device. You can also manage sales tax, track expenses and time spent on a project and generate account reports. Starts from US$19.95 per month (around R230).

3. LinkedIn

Use LinkedIn to network with colleagues and business associates, follow industry leaders, join groups and increase your exposure. Get the LinkedIn app for free from your phone's app store.

4. SARS Smartphone App

You can file and view your taxes on the go using the SARS Smartphone App. You can also view your notice of assessment (ITA34), view your Income Tax Statement of Account (ITSA), use a built-in tax calculator and request a correction. Available for Android and Apple devices.

5. Dropbox

Dropbox gives you virtually unlimited storage online – in the cloud. You can store, sync and share your files and photos between all your devices. Multiple Dropbox users can access the same folders, meaning you can avoid file duplication among your team and keep everything in one place. You get 2GB for free when you sign up.

6. Evernote

Evernote is like an online scrapbook or clipboard which allows you to bring all your thoughts, words and pictures together in one place. Clip web articles, snap photos of whiteboards in presentations and capture handwritten notes – then easily access them on your mobile device or on your desktop.

7. VodaPay App

Every responsible business owner knows you need to stay in control of your spend. Your cellphone and device bill is an important expense to keep an eye on, especially if you have contracts for your employees.

Vodacom customers can stay in control of their use with the VodaPay app. Check out your bill, your balances and your upgrade date, plus you can recharge or buy bundles to stay connected 24/7 and link all your accounts to have full transparency of all your bills. Download the VodaPay app for free for your smartphone.
