Meet Samsung’s new foldables

It’s that time of year again when Samsung shows off its next-generation foldable devices – the Fold 4 and Flip 4.

Samsung’s second Unpacked event of the year features its Z Series range and this year saw the unveiling of its fourth generation foldables. The new Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 visually look the same as last year’s devices but feature a redesigned hinge and other incremental updates.

Both handsets see the introduction of FlexCam that allows flexibility when using the device hands-free. Samsung has partnered with Meta to offer FlexCam inside apps like Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp and Messenger for content creation and video calls.

FlexCam is sort of an extension to Flex Mode, which lets you angle the screen anywhere between 75-degrees and 115-degrees. The bottom screen lets you access secondary controls while viewing content on the main screen.

Galaxy Z Fold 4

The Fold 4 is Samsung’s most powerful device and a multitasking powerhouse. New features include a redesigned taskbar that looks like a PC, new swipe gestures, and deeper multitasking through Google and Microsoft apps. It has split screen multitasking or popup windows, with drag and drop sharing, and shortcuts.

It has a 7.6-inch OLED display, and a front 6.2 cover display, with both supporting a 120Hz screen refresh rate. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. The Fold 4 also runs on Android 12L, a special version of Android designed by Google for larger screen devices.

On the camera front, it has triple rear lenses comprising of a 50MP wide angle, 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP telephoto; a 4MP under display camera; and a 10MP selfie-cam. The camera has the same boost from the S22 line-up with a larger sensor and Nightography features.

It has a 4400mAh battery, an IPX8 rating, 5G, and a fingerprint sensor. The device supports fast charging, wireless charging, and wireless power share.

Galaxy Z Flip 4

This clamshell flip phone is aimed at those who want to express their individuality as it comes in four different shades.

It features a 6.7-inch display and once folded, access to the 1.9-inch cover display, with 120Hz screen refresh rate. The cover display is functional too, which lets you access calls, messages, notifications, Samsung Pay and unlocking a car.

flip

The hands-free experience is synonymous with the Flip 4 as it stands like a tiny laptop in Flex Mode, allowing you to shoot content, watch multimedia content, make video calls, etc. The Flip is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, 8GB of RAM and 256GM of storage. It has a dual camera that is a 12MP ultra-wide and 12MP wide angle, plus a 10MP selfie-cam. It also has a large sensor with Nightography features.

It has an 3700mAh battery, IPX8 rating, 5G, and supports super-fast charging and wireless charging.
