NXT LVL Show Week 4 Highlights

After four weeks of living in the NXT LVL pad and spending time with some of the best in the music biz, it’s clear that the five musical acts are on their way to being superstars.

After four weeks of living in the NXT LVL pad and spending time with some of the best in the music biz, it’s clear that the five musical acts are on their way to being superstars. This is what Vodacom NXT LVL, which airs every Wednesday at 21.30, is all about.

This week’s episode was an emotional rollercoaster for contestants and mentors alike. Under the theme “the re-mix”, each act was paired with a mentor and had to work with them on remixing one of the mentor’s hit tracks. As the winner from last week, Thami got to choose his mentor while the others were randomly assigned. He chose DJ Zinhle as he had yet to collaborate with her musically, but the two did not make a strong team and seemed to frustrate one another more than anything. Added to that, Thami felt incredibly intimidated by the guest mentor, legendary producer Lindelani Mkhize (who left most a little starstruck). The result? Thami landed himself the bottom spot.

Meanwhile, Riky Rick pushed Zethe to new heights to get her best performance yet. And although she didn’t win this week’s big challenge, many of the other contestants and even some of the mentors felt she should have. Another big shock this week was Music 97’s fall to second last with the big performance.

It was Jesse who bagged his first-ever win with a rocking performance, despite the style being out of his comfort zone. His mentors Big Nuz went as far as to call his hook, lyrics and performance “perfect”. Lindelani and Danny K both spotted Theo’s producing skills and Lindelani encouraged him to pursue a career “behind the scenes” where his strength shone through.

The results shook up the leaderboard this week. This is how it currently stands:

With a surprise appearance from Loyiso Bala and backing vocals for the big challenge provided by the Mzansi Gay Choir, the show has officially kicked into high gear.

Don’t miss the next episode, which will see the talented youngsters create their own NXT LVL promo videos. Check out the video below.
