The new flagship Samsung Galaxy S Series is here with a mobile-first on-device generative AI (GenAI). The trio of devices will go on sale in February from Vodacom, but you may find it difficult to choose a device. So, let’s break down the shiny new software and hardware options.
Introducing Galaxy AI
The new on-device GenAI features will be available on the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra. It includes Live Translate, Chat Assist, Circle to Search with Google, Transcript Assist and a range of photo editing features.
LIVE Translate is arguably the most interesting generative AI feature that lets users call any phone, including a landline, and it will translate the call in real time, supported by 13 languages at launch. This is ideal for travellers or anyone doing business across the world. New ways to connect, new ways to create.
Similarly, the Interpreter app will let you have a face-to-face conversation while the app translates what is being said in real time. The built-in GenAI features also work for audio recordings, text messages and the notes app.
It will summarise meeting minutes, list highlights in bullet points, and can translate them to 13 languages. It works natively on the Samsung browser for any long articles you want to read but don’t have time.
Another feature coming to select Androids is Circle to Search with Google. You long-press the home button to search for anything on your screen. It works across apps like social media, your browser or email, etc. It beats taking a screenshot and doing a reverse Google image search.
On the camera front, The Samsung Galaxy S24 Series has a ProVisual engine, which enhances details, removes reflections from images and changes the direction of an object once you select it. Here's to capturing more awesome photos!
Galaxy S24 Range
S24 and 24+: Both the S24 and S24+ will be powered by an Exynos 2400 chipset, with 8/12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.
They will also share the same trio camera setup that comprises a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto lens, complemented by a 12MP selfie cam.
They differ in screen size and battery The S24 has a 6.2-inch display with a 2340x1080p resolution, and a 4000mAh battery with 25W charging, whereas the S24+ has a 6.7-inch display with a 3120x1440p resolution and a 4900mAh battery with 45W charging.
Both have 120Hz screen refresh rates. Available colourways include grey, violet, black and yellow.
S24 Ultra: The S24 Ultra packs in the best Samsung has to offer with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256/512GB storage and a 5000mAh battery.
The 6.8-inch display has a 3120x1440 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and supports the S-Pen, available separately. It also has a 200MP wide camera, 50MP and 10MP telephoto lenses, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. It is complemented by a 12MP selfie camera.
It will be available in a titanium finish in grey, violet, black and yellow.
