Vodacom keeps you connected to SA’s best soccer teams ⚽
When you look at South Africa’s rich soccer history, two teams immediately spring to mind; Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. These two Soweto soccer giants have achieved everything there is to achieve in club football and boast two of the largest fan bases on the African continent.
Vodacom has been a proud sponsor of both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates since 1998 and endeavours to unite and keep soccer fans informed by connecting them to their favourite teams.
With the global shift to digital media, Vodacom was faced with the challenge of identifying digital platforms suitable for the South African public, which could be used to keep fans connected to their teams. The two platforms identified were Vodacom Soccer USSD and @VodacomSoccer on Twitter.
Sign up to USSD and win!
The Vodacom Soccer USSD platform was established in 2014 and currently boasts a sizeable audience of soccer fans. The service is free and fans are able to choose which team they support in order to receive their chosen team’s news and updates.
The USSD platform also offers a premium option for a cost of 99 cents per week. Apart from team news and updates, users on the premium option receive team lineups, live game stats AND are rewarded with either data, airtime, SMS bundles or Vouchercloud shopping vouchers every time their team wins. To sign up to Vodacom Soccer USSD is easy. Just dial *117*177# and follow the instructions.
Follow us on Twitter
To gain a foothold in the world of social media, @VodacomSoccer on Twitter was established in August 2015 and has shown unprecedented growth since its launch. In just 18 months, it has reached over 18 600 followers and shows no signs of slowing down.
@VodacomSoccer gives both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans an exclusive look into their team and supplies its followers with unique content which cannot be seen anywhere else. Keeping in line with Vodacom’s drive to reward soccer fans, the Twitter handle also offers regular competitions where Chiefs and Pirates merchandise, handsets and Vodacom products are up for grabs.
