WhatsApp to end support for these phones

All you need to know about the imminent WhatsApp support changes.

You may have read several weeks ago that WhatsApp is ending support for a bunch of phones, including older iPhones and Android handsets. But the list of handsets being circulated was inaccurate. The confusion arose by the operating system supported.

The WhatsApp blog says Android handsets running version 4.1 and newer, alongside iPhones running iOS 10 upwards, will be supported. It included a note to say if you’re on an Android version 4.0.4, you should switch to a supported device and save your chat history.

Apple phones from the iPhone 5 upwards support iOS 10, so if you have devices including the 5C, 5S, 6, 6 Plus, 6S upwards, you should be fine. Anything older running on iOS 9 needs to be upgraded, and if you can’t do this, you need to replace the device.
