Big-screen powerhouse or Apple’s first foldable? We compare the iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo to see how their displays, cameras, battery and features differ.
Apple’s latest iPhones give you a very different kind of choice. On one side is the iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple’s large-screen flagship with powerful cameras and familiar iPhone design. On the other is the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
Both feature Apple’s A20 Pro chip and premium displays, but they’re designed for very different experiences.
Here’s how they compare.
iPhone 18 Pro Max vs iPhone Duo: Which has the bigger display?
This is where you’ll notice the biggest difference.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The iPhone Duo takes things in a completely different direction. When closed, you get a compact 5.4-inch outer display. Open it and you’re greeted by a 7.6-inch folding display, the largest display Apple has put on an iPhone.
For everyday iPhone familiarity, the Pro Max sticks to the traditional formula. The Duo gives you considerably more screen space when you need it.

How do the iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo cameras compare?
If mobile photography is a priority, there are some important differences.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 48MP Pro Fusion camera system, including main, ultra-wide and dedicated telephoto cameras. Its main camera also introduces variable aperture, giving photographers more control over how images are captured.
The iPhone Duo includes 48MP main and ultra-wide cameras but doesn’t have the Pro Max’s dedicated telephoto camera or variable-aperture Main camera.
The foldable design does introduce some interesting possibilities, though. The Duo’s outer display can act as a preview screen while you’re taking a photograph with the rear cameras, allowing the person being photographed to see the shot.

Which iPhone has better battery life?
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is designed for endurance, with Apple rating it for up to 45 hours of video playback.
Battery performance on the Duo varies depending on which screen you’re using. Apple rates it for up to 44 hours of video playback using the outer display and up to 31 hours using the folding display.
That makes sense: powering that much larger inner display naturally demands more from the battery.
What other features are different?
Both phones use the powerful A20 Pro chip, but their different designs create very different experiences.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max retains Face ID and the customisable Action button. The iPhone Duo instead uses Touch ID built into its side button.
The Duo’s large folding display also opens the door to more tablet-like features. You can use split view to work across apps, and Apple says the Duo will support Apple Pencil (USB-C), giving users another way to take notes, sketch and work with documents.
Should you choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max or iPhone Duo?
Ultimately, these two iPhones are built around different priorities.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max offers the familiar big-screen iPhone experience, combined with Apple’s more advanced camera features and longer battery life when using its main display.
The iPhone Duo is about flexibility. Keep it closed when you want a compact smartphone, then unfold it when you want more room for videos, games, multitasking or productivity.
The question isn’t simply which phone has more features. It’s what you want your next iPhone to do differently.
Whether you prefer a traditional flagship or you’re ready to unfold a new kind of iPhone experience, Apple’s latest generation gives you more choice than ever before.
