Huawei recently brought out the Nova 8i smartphone and Watch 3, available on Vodacom. Aimed at a youthful yet savvy Gen-Z crowd, these devices combine the the latest in tech with looks and affordability.
Introducing the Nova 8i
The most striking thing about the Nova 8i is its “moonlight silver” shade, that is shiny yet matte, so it doesn’t draw any fingerprints. It has quad lenses at the back, and has rounded edges, which is easier to grip. The power button doubles up as a fingerprint sensor.
The slim handset has a 6.67-inch “edgeless” display, that is 1.3mm on the sides and 1.35mm on the top and bottom. It has a 2376x1080p HD screen resolution. The full view display is suited for gamers, movie lovers or anyone obsessed with consuming multimedia content.
Speaking about content, the AI quad-camera is a content creators dream, featuring a 64MP main lens, 8MP ultra-wide angle, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro lens on the rear, and a 16MP front-facing selfie camera.
Camera enhancements include a Super Night Shot 2.0, and a 120-degree wide angle that is sure to make for better Instagram Stories. The macro lens allows you to shoot as close as 4cm from the subject.
It is powered by a Snapdragon 662 chipset with an octa-core processor, a dedicated Adreno 610 graphics card, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The Nova 8i has a massive 4300mAh battery and comes with a 66W SuperCharge plug that will fully charge the phone in less than 40 minutes. The Nova 8i does not have access to the Google Play Store, however it does have access to Huawei’s own App Gallery.
A closer look at the Watch 3
The Watch 3 is positioned as a fashion accessory for your wrist. It runs on Huawei’s latest HarmonyOS 2 and now with eSIM support. It pairs on both Android and iPhone.
The face is made with an ultra-curved 3D glass in a 46mm size, with a bright 1.43-inch AMOLED display. It also introduces a new 3D rotating crown that delivers tactile feedback, which is a first for a Huawei smartwatch.
The glass display is scratch and fingerprint resistant and comes with a choice of over 30 different watch faces that are pre-installed. Some faces support a 5-10 second video that you can shoot, and more than 1000 designs on the Huawei Watch Face Store.
As a health and fitness focused device, it has fall detection, heart-rate tracking, sleep monitoring and SOS alerts. Features that have been highlighted during the pandemic include SpO2 monitoring, temperature sensor, stress management and handwashing detection.
It can also track more than 100 workouts, has more than 10 running courses, and built-in GPS means you don’t have to run with your smartphone.
