The Scarlets made history when they became the first professional Welsh team to win the now Vodacom United Rugby Championship in the 2003-04 season. They claimed their second title in the 2016-17 season, and finished runners-up the following season. Originally known as the Llanelli Scarlets, the club officially became the Scarlets in 2008. “The Turks” as they’re known have continued the proud Welsh club rugby tradition of bringing down some big international touring teams and have victories over the All Blacks and Australia as part of their rugby legacy. The great Gareth Jenkins is one of the many legends to have played for Scarlets.

If you want to sound like a local: Mention how much you enjoyed the film Grav, which pays tribute to Welsh, British and Irish Lions, and Scarletsrugby legend Rav Gravell.

What you didn’t know: It is said that after the Scarlets beat the All Blacks in 1972, the pubs in Llanelli literally ran out of beer.
