Whether you’re the type of person who uses a VPN on a secure burner phone, or the type who yells “Hack the planet!” while wondering why your laptop keeps slowing down, it’s always worth staying up to speed on the latest online scams. These podcasts – available on platforms like Spotify, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and all the other places you usually find your podcasts – tap into industry expertise to keep you informed and entertained… and (most importantly) safe when you’re online.
Part of the This Week in Tech (TWIT) network, Security Now is ideal for commuters, with episodes running about two hours. Hosts Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte get into the technical details of the latest cybercrime and hacking trends, giving IT pros (and normies) plenty to think about.
Of course we’re going to recommend our own show! Tech Talk with Vodacom offers excellent insights into all things digital – including, of course, cybersecurity. It really is very good, though we do say so ourselves.
Every weekday CyberWire Daily host Dave Bitner dishes out half-hour doses of the latest cybersecurity news and analysis, including interviews with industry experts and academics from across the world. Its spin-off show, Only Malware in the Building, is just as good.
While CyberWire Daily focuses on the tech, its weekly spin-off Hacking Humans looks at the human side of cybercrime. Phishing, smishing, social engineering… you name it, they unpack it. And just as well: as any techie will tell you, most cybersecurity breaches are caused by human error.
If Hacking Humans doesn’t light up your podcast feed, try this one. With slick production and excellent content, Hacker Valley explores the human side of tech and cybersecurity, delivering tech insights that are easy for normal people to understand (without being dumbed down).
Aki Anastasioui’s What's Next podcast is great for South African content. The show deals with tech in general, but (because it’s such a huge problem) cybersecurity features prominently on the agenda.
One of the longest-running cybersecurity podcasts around, Risky.Biz adds some welcome humour and personality to the conversation. The show also has two excellent spin-offs, Between Two Nerds and Seriously Risky Business. Dig through the archives to find plenty of good stuff!
Host Ran Levi and his guests tell stories (some of which will blow your mind) about hacking through the ages, ranging from the viruses of the 1990s to the fake Nigerian princes, Renaissance codebreakers and the Y2K Bug. As on the excellent Darknet Diaries, the history on Malicious Life is fascinating, and the message is deeply relevant for today.
Cybersecurity is serious business – as anybody who’s been hacked would tell you. But Smashing Security still finds room to bring in the humour, taking a highly topical (and super entertaining) approach to cybersecurity news.
These podcasts are informative and will educate you about the dangers of cybersecurity. For more content about protecting yourself online check out our comprehensive Fraud Overview.
