There’s nothing more annoying than running out of data just when you need it most. You’re about to request an Uber, your bestie is spilling the tea, or maybe you were streaming music. Suddenly… insufficient data. Fortunately, Vodacom lets you transfer data from one SIM to another. Here’s how to do it, so you’re never stuck offline again.

Standard Data Transfer
Whether you’re a Prepaid, Hybrid or Postpaid subscriber, you can transfer data from one SIM to another on the Vodacom network – as long as you are the master account holder and the person you’re sharing with has the same kind of plan as you.
In other words:
- Prepaid customers can transfer data to other Prepaid customers
- NXT LVL Prepaid customers can share data with other NXT LVL Prepaid customers
- NXT LVL Hybrid customers can share data with other NXT LVL Hybrid customers
- Customers on Mobile Broadband plans can share data with other customers on the same plan types
When it comes to Topup and Postpaid plans:
- Postpaid customers can transfer data to other Postpaid customers and Topup customers
- Hybrid customers can transfer data to other Hybrid customers and Postpaid customers
How to transfer data
Transferring data is easy for Vodacom customers. Dial *135# on your phone and press the call button. Follow the prompts until you can select “Services”. That’s where you should find “Data Transfer” listed. If you don’t see “Data Transfer” in the menu, keep selecting “Next” until you see it.

RED Data Share
Being a RED customer gives you a bunch of great benefits and one of them is the ability to transfer data to other Vodacom users with Family Sharing – as long as you are the master account holder or have master account privileges enabled. You can share up to 20GB of data with up to six people, on any Postpaid contract or any Topup contract on the Vodacom network.
How to transfer data
As a RED customer, you can transfer data on Vodacom through the VodaPay app or by dialling *135# on your phone and then pressing the call button. Follow the prompts. Choose “next” until you find “Services” – the “Data Transfer” option should be listed there.
The data you choose to transfer will be deducted from your data bundle balance and the person you transfer it to will receive it as a once-off bundle.
You will be charged R25 per month per user you transfer data to, added to your monthly bill – but you won’t be charged every time you share.
As a receiving user, you can only receive a data transfer from one user per month.

Personal Hotspot
You don’t necessarily have to transfer data in order to share your data with someone else – as long as that person is with you at the time.
Simply set up a personal hotspot on your smartphone and allow them to connect to your phone like they would connect to Wi-Fi.
How to share your data
Open “Settings” on your smartphone and look for “Personal Hotspot”. Toggle the button that allows others to join into the “on” position.
They should soon see your phone displayed under available Wi-Fi networks. Type your Wi-Fi password (displayed on your phone) into their device and they should be able to connect.
Happy sharing!
