Toby Sutcliffe, the CEO of Tuks High Performance Centre, says the school finds the balance between providing students an excellent education and affording them opportunities to excel in their sport. When students return from sporting trips, teachers are on hand to help them catch up through one-on-one sessions and customised learning programmes. The teachers are passionate about what they do and want to see the kids succeed. They also understand that sporting success is determined by various factors off the field, including psychology, nutrition, strength and conditioning and injury prevention.
TuksSport High School gives kids all they need to become stars; the rest is up to them. Many former students have gone on to represent Bafana Bafana and the women’s national soccer team. To reach the highest level, students must be mentally strong and physically up to the challenge, and they need the heart to overcome setbacks and push through.
